4,750 CANS

4,750 cans were used to honor amelia earhart in the 2023 long beach canstruction event. canstruction is a charity competition event that donates canned food to Food Finders in Long Beach. CANstruction competitions are held annually in over 150 cities around the world. Teams build large structures made out of full cans of food. (10’x10’x10’) After the structures are built, the creations are put on display to the public as a giant art exhibition. At the end of the viewing, all the food is donated to local hunger relief organizations. this year, Centered around the theme “Yes She CAN!” the sculptures were made to honor pioneering women of the past and future. our structure commemorates the great aviator amelia earhart and her trailblazing contributions to the field of aviation. many of her feats were performed on the “lockheed vega,” reconstructed below.
