Originally built in 1914 as the National Theater, it was one of twenty entertainment venues on Main Street, in what was then known as the "Theater District" of Los Angeles. Throughout the years, it was a “grindhouse” and adult-movie theater, before closing in 2000. Over a decade later, it was transformed into a music venue by Spaceland Presents , which brought in New Theme and TEG to revitalize the 104-year-old building. The Regent re-opened in 2014 with a completely updated interior, a second-story mezzanine, an attached bar (Lovesong) and a restaurant (Prufrock Pizzeria). The Regent also hosts monthly events such as the Rock 'N' Roll Flea Market and an 80's/90's dance party.
